Quebec Wrestlers excel at the World Junior Championships

Sunday, September 4th marked the end of the Junior Championships held in Macon France and the results were quite good from a provincial standpoint.  Quebec sent one of its largest contingent in years, having representatives in all three styles of wrestling (Greco-Roman, Womens Freestyle and Mens Freestyle).  Though we didn't have a strong finish in Greco-Roman, Quebec placed two wrestlers in the Top Ten in both the Mens and Womens Freestyle divisions.

In additon to this fantastic result, our Quebec wrestlers placed the highest amongst all Canadian athletes at the tournament!  Alex Moore, wrestling for Vanier College and the Montreal YMHA beat Dinislambek Taalaibek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan by a score of 10-4 and Pritam Pritam of India by a score of 11-1 before losing to eventual Silver medalist, Ahmad Bazrighaleh of Iran.  Alex would then be placed in the repechage and would lose Nikita Suchkov of Russia who would then go on to win the Bronze.  Alex would place 8th overall in the 74 kgs!

These two individual results represent a strong showing for the province as both these athletes have another year of Junior competition left.  Congratulations Alex and Jade on your fine results!
