A busy weekend for Quebec Clubs

The New Year kicked off with a bang as Quebec clubs sent representatives to four tournaments this past weekend.  CLIC, Concordia University, KSS, The Montreal YMHA, les Patriotes de St-Cesaire, Vanier College and Vincent Massey Collegiate sent athletes to National Capitol, Thorold, K-Bay and the Brock Invitational.

 

The Thorold Highschool Tournament 

At the Thorold Highschool tournament held on Friday January 13th, Montreal YMHA, les Patriotes de St-Cesaire and Vanier College sent athletes and the tournament and the results were very strong.  From the Montreal YMHA, Marius Samson wrestling at 47.5 kgs, Jason Luneau (51 kgs), Nicolae Gandrabura (54 kgs), Natael Lebrun-Cantin (64 kgs) and Jaskaran Singh (72 kgs) all won Gold Medals in their respective divisions while from les Patriotes de St-Cesaire Samuel Rainville wrestling at 67.5 kgs won Gold as well.  Rounding out the results from Vanier College, Aaron Orszak (77 kgs), Julien Choquette (83 kgs) and Jonathan Campagnolo (95 kgs) all won Gold Medals in their divisions, completing the clean sweep for Quebec in the Boys divisions.  On the Girls side, the results were equally as strong as Alexia Sherland (77 kgs) from the Montreal YMHA, Kaya Dube Snow (57.5 kgs) and Alexandria Campbell (72 kgs) from Vanier College all won Gold while Erin Rainville from les Patriotes de St-Cesaire placed second at 54 kgs.

The K-Bay Tournament

At the K-Bay Tournament held in Barrie Ontario, The Montreal YMHA, les Patriotes de St-Cesaire and Vanier College competed for a second day in a row on Saturday January 14th.  From the Montreal YMHA, Marius Samson (47.5 kgs), Nicolae Gandrabura (54 kgs) and Natael Lebrun-Cantin (64 kgs) won Gold in their divisions while Jason Luneau (51 kgs) and Jaskaran Singh (72 kgs) won Silver in their divisions.  St-Cesaire's lone athlete,  Samuel Rainville wrestling at 67.5 kgs took Silver in his division.  Finally from Vanier College, Aaron Orszak (77 kgs), Julien Choquette (83 kgs) and Jonathan Campagnolo (95 kgs) scored a clean sweep in the Gold medal department.  For the Girls, Alexia Sherland wrestling at 77 kgs from Montreal YMHA took Silver while Erin Rainville from les Patriotes de St-Cesaire won Gold at 54 kgs. The National Capitol Tournament

At the National Capitol Tournament in Kanata, wrestling from CLIC, Christopher Merlo won Gold in the 38-41 kgs Boys Cadet-Open division while Cezar Toma (61 kgs Cadet Boys) and Joseph Aziz (83 kgs Cadet-Open Boys) both won the Bronze.  Thomas Rizk completes the results for CLIC with a Silver Medal at  89 kgs Boys Open.  From KSS, Trinity Jacobs competing at 57.5 Cadet Girls took a Bronze Medal at while Wenhniserilostha Goodleaf (83 kgs Cadet Girls), Stella McComber (77 kgs Girls Open) and Kennikahontesha Montour (Girls Open Combined 61-64 kgs) all won Silver medals in their divisions.  On the Boys side from KSS, Tehatokontha McComber wrestling at 130 kgs Cadet Boys won the Bronze Medal while Kanenahtens Bush (51-54 kgs Boys Open) and Kye Diablo ( 77 kgs Boys Open) placed second in their respective divisions.  Rounding out the results for the KSS Boys,  Nicolas Styres won a Bronze Medal at 89 kgs Open Boys.  The lone representative from Montreal YMHA Ilie Dragoman won a Gold medal at 67 kgs Kids while from les Patriotes de St-Cesaire, Olivier Pare placed 1st at 44 kgs Cadet Boys.  Finally, from Vincent Massey Collegiate, Alexa Grimaldi won Bronze at 44 kgs at Cadet Girls while Alexandra Macdonald-Neves took a Silver in the 50 kgs Bantam Girls division.

The Brock Invitational

At the Brock Invitational Trevor Banks from the Montreal YMHA took Gold at 54 kgs while Gabriel Chouke (61 kgs) and Dajinder Singh (72 kgs) took Bronze Medals in their respective divisions.  From Vanier College, Alex Moore and Sam Barmish took Gold and Silver in the 82 kgs division. Alex would also go on to win the Outstanding Male wrestler for the tournament.  Finally Frederique Choquette Wrestling for Concordia University would win Gold at 120 kgs while Aly Barghout from Vanier College would win Silver in the same division.  On the Womens side, Amanda Savard from Vanier College won Gold at 67 kgs.
