Results from the Canadian National Championships

The Canadian National Championships are officially over in both the Senior-Junior category as well as the Cadet Juvenile.  Quebec as province did quite well with medals being won at both National Championships.  For the complete results, click here.

 

The Senior-Junior Nationals were held in Edmonton Alberta and had almost all of the Quebec clubs send representatives.  Genevieve Lamarche of Montreal YMHA was the lone top five finisher in the Junior Women category placing 5th at 82 kgs.  Angus Cowell of QWA was the lone male medalist at the Junior level taking the Bronze medal at 96 kgs in Freestyle and gold at Greco Roman.

On the Senior level in Freestyle in the Women's Category, Veronica Keefe of Montreal YMHA took a Silver Medal at the 75 kgs category while Liz Sera of Montreal YMHA took home the Gold Medal at the 58 kgs category.

On the Men's Freestyle side, Jordie Steen took home a Bonze Medal at the 86 kgs and Ali Al-Rekabi took the Silver at the 97 kgs category.  Cleo Ncube was the only Gold Medal winner, winning at the 74 kgs category.  All wrestlers represent the Montreal YMHA.

In the Men's Greco Roman, Matthew Millar at 80 kgs of the QWA and Phillip Barriero of KSS at 85 kgs both won Gold Medals with Phillip Barriero winning the Outstanding Wrestler Award.

At the Cadet/Juvenile Nationals held in Guelph Ontario, Quebec had it's most successful showing, having many participants placing in the top six and four medals won.

Jimi Fatouros from Beurling Academy, representing Montreal YMHA won a Silver Medal 85 kgs Cadet Boys while Alex Moore of Selwyn House, also representing Montreal YMHA took home a Sliver Medal at the 63 kgs Juvenile Boys Category while Nolan Terrence of KSS also placed second at 130 kgs Juvenile Boys.  Aly Barghout of the Montreal YMHA was lone Gold Medal winner at 115 kgs Cadet Boys.
