Updates for the Province of Quebec

May, June and July has been a busy but a successful month for wrestlers from the Province of Quebec. With so much going on, it's sometimes hard to keep up with all the positive things going on with wrestling in the province of Quebec. Nevertheless, here's a brief overlook of the last couple of months. At the FILA Cadet Pan American Championships, held on May 2-4 in Recife Brazil, Alex Moore of the Montreal YMHA took 2nd at the 63 kgs category in Freestyle. Also representing the province of Quebec was John Yeats of QWA who took a Bronze Medal at 76 kgs Greco Roman category. Congratulations to both wrestlers!

Angus Cowell of the QWA was also successful during this busy period as he took two
Silver Medals at the Junior Pan Ams held on June 27-29 2014 in Toronto, Ontario. Congratulations Angus on your tremendous accomplishment!

At the Canada Cup held in Guelph Ontario, three wrestlers from the Montreal YMHA also medaled at this International Event. Jordie Steen won a Gold Medal at the Senior Mens 86 kg Division while Veronica Keefe also took home a Gold Medal at the Womens 75 kg Division. In the Junior Male Division, Guseyn Ruslanzada took home a Bronze Medal at 63 kg.

At the World University Championships or FISU which are currently being held in Pecs, Hungary, Scott Schiller and Liz Sera of the Montreal YMHA and Dorothy Yeats of QWA are set to begin their quest for Gold. for current results, click here. Good luck to all our athletes!

Also happening in the month of July, Alex Moore of the Montreal YMHA will represent Canada at the FILA Cadet World Championships to be held in Snina, Slovakia on July 15-20, 2014. Good luck to Alex at this event!

Also in the month of July, Ali Al-Rekabi of the Montreal YMHA will compete at the Freestyle Senior Pan Ams in Mexico City, Mexico on July 15-17 2014. Matthew Miller of the QWA will also be competing at this event at the 80 kg Greco Roman Division. This high level International Competition will be good test for both these athletes. We wish them the best of luck!

The last event of the calendar month of July has the the Senior Commonwealth Games which are being held in Glasgow, Scotland on July 29-31 2014. The Commonwealth Games are a prestigious multi sport event that occurs once every four years from the countries from the British Commonwealth. Cleo Ncube of Montreal YMHA will compete at 74 kgs while Dorothy Yeats of QWA will be competing at the 69 kgs Womens category. Good luck to both our representatives from Quebec!
