January 2015
January starts off the New Year strong with the Guelph Invitational Tournament. Considered to be one of the tougher tournaments in Canada, the Guelph Invitational features athletes from across Canada and the United States. Quebec sent a strong contingent of wrestlers to Guelph at both the club and university levels. Click here for the full results.
Some individual standout results had Liz Sera of the Montreal YMHA taking Gold at Women 55 kg and Veronica Keefe also of Montreal YMHA, taking a Silver at the Women 75 kg.
The result for the Men saw Jordan Stein and Ali Al-Rekabi of Montreal YMHA take home Gold Medals at the 86 kg and 97 kg respectively while James Mancini placed second at 57 kg. Rounding off the Quebec contingent was Vincent De Marinis of Concordia taking home the Silver Medal at the 61 kg weight division and Gabriel Choueke from the Montreal YMHA placing 6th at the same weight.

The month of January also started off strong with KSS, Montreal YMHA, St-Cesaire and Westwood High School competing at the inaugural Preston High School Invitational on January 24th in Port Hope, Ontario. This tournament didn’t have the strongest turnout but had a good number of matches for the wrestlers to compete in. The team results were good as Montreal-YMHA won the Boys category and KSS took home team honours in the Girls division. The individual results were as follows:

The same weekend also featured the Quebec wrestlers competing at the Western Invitational in London, Ontario. Several clubs from Quebec also competed at the National Capitol Tournament held in Ottawa. This tournament is a good way to get wrestlers some much needed matches with the difficulty level not being that high. In addition to this, there are age divisions as well which is an attractive feature. The results are as follow:
