The Cadet-Juvenile Nationals 2016

On Friday and Saturday, Quebec sent a contigent to the Cadet-Juvenile Nationals in Calgary Alberta and the results were quite strong.  Clubs from CLIC, the Crazy Dogs, KSS, Montreal YMHA and the Patriotes de St-Cesaire all sent athletes to the competition.  The competition was divided into two days with the Cadet and Juvenile Boys competing on Friday and the Cadet and Juvenile Girls competing on Saturday.  The FILA Cadet Trials were held the following days of the respective divisions for the Boys and the Girls.  The results were as follows:  

 

In the Cadet Mens Division, Nicolae Gandrabura wrestling for the Montreal YMHA placed fourth at 50 kgs while Thomas Rizk wrestling for CLIC was 5th at 85 kgs.

In the Juvenile Mens Division, the results were stronger as Julien Choquette of the Patriotes de St-Cesaire placed 4th at 76 kgs while Aaron Orszack wrestling for the Montreal YMHA at the same weight, defeated Benny Zahra of Kingston to claim his first national title.

Also putting in a strong performance, Aly Barghout beat all his opponents by technical superiority en-route to taking another National Title at the 115 kgs weight division by beating Hunter Grant of ESQUIMALT.

And finally, Montreal YMHA placed 2nd as a club in the team standings with 20 points, narrowly missing out on the team title to the Matmen Wrestling Club with 23 points.

On Saturday, the Cadet and Juvenile Girls as well as the FILA Cadet men went to the mat.  Once again, Quebec fielded some good results.  In the Cadet Girls division, Quebec had four Top Six finishers.  Erin Rainville wrestling for the Patriotes de St-Cesaire placed 6th at 52 kgs while Tiakotierontonwrestling Diabo, wrestling for KSS placed 6th at 56 kgs.

At the 60 kgs division, Mackenzie Wilson from the Crazy Dogs placed 5th while Wehnhiseriiostha Goodleaf from KSS was 6th at 90 kgs.

In the Juvenile Girls Division Kaya Dubé-Snow from the Montreal YMHA took her first National Medal by winning a Silver at the 52 kgs division.

IFinally, in the FILA Cadet Trials, Julien Choquette qualified his spot for the FILA Cadet Pan American Championships by placing second in a tough field of competitors.  

 

Congratulations to all our Quebec athletes on their fine results.  This tournament was an acoomplishment and the result of all your hard work.
