UWW Cadet World Wrestling Championship

Athens Greece September 2-11 2017

This year's Cadet World Championship was held in the historic city of Athens, the capital of Greece, with the new UWW rules being implemented for the first time (according to the process defined by the UWW during two days).  The instructors listed the latest achievements for the year and was held every day at the referee’s clinic.  Required items were also recounted to referees from all over the world during the tournament.  With the presence of the worlds leading Wrestling Federations, including Russia, USA, Azerbaijan, Iran, Germany, and the Independent States with all their qualifications during the course of the tournament showed the commitment of investing in this popular field in the world.

The competition venue

It was an indication of each country's investment due to the high level of participants both in wrestlers and referees.  The attendance of 60 referees from all over the world showed an interest in the progress of arbitration in the world of wrestling.

A total of 229 Wrestlers from 42 nations participated in Greco-Roman and Freestyle (237 wrestlers) from 45 nations and 186 wrestlers from 40 nations participated in Women’s Wrestling.

The officials in Greece

Over all this year's Cadet Worlds were very difficult for the participants which included wrestlers, coaches and the officials due to 2 day weigh-ins and 7 days of wrestling and because of the long tournament day.  Because of the schedule, every day nine officials could have a break all afternoon, one time during the competition.  Myself and the other official from Canada (Lenis) manage to visit the Acropolis and museums during our break and it was great experience.  I loved the city of Athens with its hot temperature, good food and drink.

Some historical sites

I will visit again in the near future but next time as tourist.

Thank you
