Bishop Ryan Early Bird and the York Invitational

The weekend of November 17-18 was the site for two tournaments.  Bishop Ryan high school held their annual Early Bird tournament on Friday November 17th while York University hosted another tournament on the university schedule.  Concordia University, Montreal YHMA, Les Patriotes de St-Cesaire and Vanier College sent athletes to both tournaments and the results were as follows:

From the Bishop Ryan Early Bird Tournament, wrestling in the High School Girls Division and competing for the Montreal YMHA via Vincent Massey Collegiate, Alexandra Macdonald-Neves won a Silver Medal at 52. 5 kgs while in the Boys Division, Nicolae Grandrabura (57.5 kgs) and Stone Lewis (61 kgs) both won Gold.  In the Novice Division, Vincent Renaud (Vincent Massey Collegiate and the Montreal YMHA) won a Bronze at 67.5 kgs.

For the Patriotes de St-Cesaire, Mathis Rainville (79 kgs) and Yann Heymug (64.5 kgs) both won Gold Medals in the Novice Boys Division.  Finally from Vanier College, wrestling in the Girls Division, Erin Rainville won Gold at 58 kgs while Jaden Sparks took Silver at 58 kgs.  In the Boys Division, Julien Choquette (89 kgs) and Jonathan Campagnolo (130 kgs) won Gold while Samuel Rainville was Second at 72 kgs.  Finally, Nataël Lebrun-Cantin (67.5 kgs) and Jaskaran Singh (72 kgs) both took home Bronze Medals.  Congratulations to our Quebec athletes and coaches Martine Dugrennier, Carl Rainville and Victor Zilberman for their strong performances.

At the York University Invitational, Concordia University, the Montreal YMHA and Vanier College were well represented at the tournament and took home some good results.  From Concordia University, Francis Carter won Silver at 65 kgs while Vincent De Marinis (68 kgs) And Frederique Choquette (120 kgs) won Gold Medals in the Mens Division.  For the Women, Jade Dufour won Gold at 51 kgs while Amanda Savard took Bronze at 67 kgs.

From the Montreal YMHA, Trevor Banks (54 kgs), Guseyn Ruslanzada (72 kgs), Jordie Steen (100 kgs) and Linda Morais (63 kgs) won Gold while Gabriel Choueke (61 kgs) and Jeremy Poirier (90 kgs) took Silver Medals in their respective weight divisions.  Rounding out the Bronze Medals for the Montreal YMHA were Christina Corecencova (59 kgs) and Veronica Keefe (82 kgs).

Finally from Vanier College, Aaron Orszak (76 kgs) and Alex Moore (82 kgs) both won Gold Medals while Aly Barghout won Silver at 120 kgs.  Finishing off with Bronze Medals were Dylan McLean (61 kgs), Sam Barmish (76 kgs) and Kaya Dubé-Snow (55 kgs).

In the Team Varisty Rankings, Concordia University placed second for the Men and third for the women.  In the combined Varisty standings, Concordia placed second overall.  For the Team Standings amongst the wrestling clubs, the Montreal YMHA was first overall with 49 points while Vanier College was second with 31 points.  For the club standings in Womens division, Montreal YMHA placed second.  Finally for the combined club standings, Montreal YMHA was first followed by Vanier College.  Congratulations to all our athletes who wrestled well this past weekend!
