Results from the Guelph Invitational 2018

The Guelph Inviational Wrestling Tournament took place this past Sunday on January 21st. Guelph is the only Carding tournament on this side of the country (Carding points are needed for athletes to receive government funding) making the level of competition very high as athletes from across Canada, the United States and other countries come to compete. Often referred to as a mini-national championships, taking a medal at the Guelph tournament is a worthy achievement. Quebec wrestlers from Concordia and the Montreal YMHA competed this past weekend at Guelph with some very competitive results which were the following:

From Concordia University, Jade Dufour defeated Augusta Eve of Team Impact in the 50 kgs Womens Bronze Medal final via Technical Fall (10-0) while Vincent De Marinis, also wrestling for Concordia, would lose a close final in the Gold Medal match at 65 kgs to Cruz Manning of Brock University to finish off with the Silver Medal. Also wrestling for Concordia University, Alex Moore would take home Gold in the 86 kgs over Ahmed Shamiya of McMaster University (Injury Forfeit) while Jordie Steen (Concordia Univeristy) would win his final match via Tehcnical Fall (10-0) over Calvin Daum of Brock University to win Gold at 97 kgs. Federique Choquette would round out the results for Concordia by taking home a Silver medal at 125 kgs via Round Robin.

From the Montreal YMHA, Linda Morais would win Gold in the 62 kgs catergory by beating Jessica Brouillette of Brock University via Technical Fall (10-0) while Aly Barghout (125 kgs) would take home a Bronze Medal in a Round Robin. Congratulations to our Quebec athletes for their results at this very competitive tournament.
