The trials for the 2018 World Championships for the non-olympic weights took place on Friday July 6th at WF. Mitchell Athletic Centre at the University of Guelph.  Athletes on both the Men and Women's side looked to book their place to the World Championships being held in Budapest Hungary in October.  The Montreal YMHA was the only Quebec club to send athletes to the event as Scott Schiller (61 kgs), Vince De Marinis (70 kgs) and Guseyn Ruslanzada (79 kgs) looked to secure their spots for the Men's team while Linda Morais (59 kgs) and Veronica Keefe (72 kgs) looked to book their tickets to the Worlds for the Women.

The wrestling began with Scott Schiller versus Melvin Arciaga from the Bears Wrestling Club. Scott would win that match comfortably by Technical Fall with a score of 11-0.  Scott's next match would have him face off against Aso Palani (Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club) which Scott would win by Decision by a score of 5-1.  Scott's final match to secure his spot on the World Team would be against Josh Bodnarchuk of the Saskatoon Wrestling Club.  Scott would win this match comfortably by Technical Fall (16-5) and book his ticket to Budapest.
