Results from the 2019 Guelph Open

The Guelph Open took place on Sunday January 20th in Guelph Ontario. The Guelph Open is a carding tournament, meaning that wrestlers wishing to get carding points must particpate in the competition. With enough carding points, athletes with with a top placing at the Senior National Championships in an Olympic weight may receive funding. As a result, the quality of competition is quite high as we see a huge variety of competitors from across Canada and from the United States. Concordia University, the Montreal YMHA, the Riverdale Wrestling Club and Vanier College sent athletes to the competition in the hopes of getting points for their existing cards or carding points to obtain a card.

From the Riverdale Wrestling Club, Nicolae Grandrabura was 4th at 61 kg while from Concordia University, Jade Dufour (50 kg), Laurence Beauregard (59 kg) and Frederique Choquette (125 kg) won Bronze Medals in their respective divisions. Finally, Alex Moore would finish the tournament strong by winning Gold at 86 kg.

Wrestling for Vanier College, Brayden Todd (57 kg) won Silver in his division. From the Montreal YMHA, Jayd Davis (53 kg) and Guseyn Ruslanzada (74 kg) won Bronze in their respective divisions while Aly Barghout would win Silver at 125 kg. Finally, finishing off with Gold medals were Scott Schiller (61 kg), Linda Morais (62 kg) and Vincent De Marinis (65 kg).

In addition to this, the Montreal YMHA finished tied with the Brock University Wrestling Club for the top team in the tournament with tthirty two points. Congratulations to our Quebec athletes for their strong outing at the Guelph Open!
