On Friday March 22nd, Quebec clubs competed in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the marquee event on the Canadian wrestling calendar, the Junior-Senior National Championships.  Quebec clubs were well represented as athletes from Concordia University, the Crazy Dogs, the Montreal Wrestling Club, the Montreal YMHA, the Riverdale Wrestling Club and Vanier College all competed at the event.  The Juniors were the first to compete and the results were very good.

Competing in the Junior Women's category, Virginie Gascon wrestling at 55 kg would win all her matches in her Round-Robin, finishing strong with a Technical Superiority win (10-0) over Elizabeth Feddema of the Calgary Spartans to become the 2019 National Champion while Erin Rainville (57 kg) would win her final match by Fall over Elizabeth Doornaert from London-Western to take home a Bronze medal. Finally, Sophie Leboeuf (65 kg) would also finish her tournament strong with a win by Technical Superiortiy (10-0) to secure a Bronze medal.

Quebec dominates 61 kg!

In the Junior Men's division at 57 kg, Brayden Todd would win his first two matches via Technical Superiority to secure his spot in the Gold Medal Final where he would face Garette Saunders of the Brock Wrestling Club.  After a good start, Brayden would win his match via Technical Superiority (10-0) to defend his national title.  At 61 kg, Jason Luneau and Nicolae Grandrabura wrestled beyond their years to reach the Gold Medal finals and wrestle in an all Quebec final for Gold.  After a tough match, Nicolae Grandrabura would win by a score of 5-3.  Wrestling at 65 kg, Natael Lebrun-Cantin would wrestle several tough matches, including facing off against a former National Champion.  Natael would finally finish off in 6th place after an injury forfeit.  Finally Julien Choquette (92 kg) would wrestle four matches in a Round-Robin, finishing strong with a win by Technical Superiority (12-2) to become the 2019 National Champion.

Congratulations to all our Junior athletes on their hard fought victories!  Now on to the Seniors!
