The weekend concluded with the U17-U19 Canadian National Championships held in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Hosted by UNB at the Aitken centre, Quebec clubs were in full force as Beurling Academy, CLIC, the Crazy Dogs, Heritage Regional High School, Massey Vanier, the Mohawk Wrestling Club, the Montreal YMHA, the Patriotes de St-Cesaire and the Tritton Wrestling Club took to the mat in hopes of securing medals and a place on the UWW Cadet National Team.
Some of the Quebec Coaches prepare for Day 1
On Friday April 5th, the U17-U19 Boys took to the mat. Wrestling for CLIC at the U17 80 kg division, Bilel Mahfoudhi would finish 6th while at the 51 kg U19 division, Christopher Merlo would win his final match via Technical Superiority (11-0) to win a Bronze Medal. From the Crazy Dogs, Jason Luneau (60 kg) wrestled a strong tournament en-route to another berth in the finals at another National Championships. Jason would lose a close final via Decision (9-6) and finish off with a Silver Medal. From Heritage Regional High School, Stone Lewis (65 kg) would wrestle a strong tournament to win his final match via Fall in the first round to take home Gold. Stone would also wrestle a strong tournament at the UWW Cadet trials to secure his spot on the Cadet National Team.

Two Quebec Wrestlers take medals at 92 kg!
From the Mohawk Wrestling Club, Nick Cross (U17 92 kg) would win his first two matches before suffereing an injury and would finish off in 6th place while at the U19 125 kg division, Jersey Mcgowan would recover from a rough start, finishing off strong by winning his final match by Fall to secure the first ever National Medal for the Mohawk Wrestling Club with a Bronze Medal finish. From the Montreal YMHA, Junior Iordache wrestling at the U17 60 kg Division would lose the his final match by decision (10-2) to win Silver while Nolan O'Rourke would finish his tournament strong with a win via Fall in less than thirty seconds to win Bronze in the 65 kg U17 Boys division. From the Patriotes de St-Cesaire, Yann Heymug (71 kg) would come back strong after losing a controversial decision to win his Bronze Medal final via Technical Superiority (10-0) while Emile Forgues (80 kg) would also win his Bronze medal final in style by Fall in less than thirty seconds. Finally, Mathis Rainville (U17 92 kg) would finish off his tournament in style by winning his Gold Medal Final by fall in less than a minute to win Gold and become a National Champion. In addditon to this, the Patriotes de St-Cesaire would finish off as the third best team overall in the country. Last but not least, newcomer Xavier Lauzon (U17 92 kg) would lose his first match but would go on a role to win his Bronze medal final via Decision (8-0) to become the Tritton Wrestling Club's first ever National Medalist.

On Saturday April 6th, the U17-U19 Girls took the mat as Beurling Academy, CLIC, the Mohawk Wrestling Club and the Patriotes de St-Cesaire would begin their tournament, as the Girls would wrestle on this day. From CLIC, Laurence Lescadre (U17 49 kg) would finish 4th while from the Mohawk Wrestling Club, in the U17 Girls division, Inara Bardai would win her final match via Fall at the 1:39 mark of the first round to place 5th at the U17 57 kg division. Stella McComber (U19 69 kg) would wrestle a strong tournament and win some tough matches to secure 6th place overall while Wenhniseriiostha Goodleaf (U19 90 kg) would be forced to withdraw due to injury but still managed to place 6th. Finally, from the Patriotes de St-Cesaire, Camille Dubuc (U17 61 kg) would lose a tough Gold Medal final via Fall to take home a Silver Medal.
This year's Nationals featured some very tough matches and many athletes performed above their personal bests. A special thanks go to all the coaches and Team leaders who made the trip to New Brunswick, volunteering their time to help their athletes achieve their dreams.
