Good start for our Junior athletes at the 2019 Pan-American Championships

The 2019 Junior Pan-American Championships held in Guatemala City, Guatemala, began for our Quebec athletes with Virginie Gascon of Concordia University starting off her tournament in the 55 kg division with a match versus Neidy Lizeth Vasquez Gomez from Guatemala in which Virginie would win take the lead (4-0) before winning that match by pin.

Virginie's next match in the round robin would have her face off against Nathaly Marilu Herrera Huacre of Peru.  Virginie would be ahead on points (12-4) before succumbing to a pin.  Viriginie would gather herself and wrestle a strong match versus Leonelly Brito Roca of Bolivia.  Virginie would take a 8-0 lead and would win the match by pin.

Virginie's final match would be against Alisha Sue Howk from the United States.  Virginie would wrestle a strong match but would eventually lose by points by a score of 14-6.  With her two wins, Virginie would take the Bronze medal to start Quebec athletes off on a positive foot and help Canada to secure second best country at the tournament.  Next up would be Brayden Todd (57 kg) and Julien Choquette (92 kg) of Vanier College on the following day.  Congratulations Virginie and best of luck to our Junior Men!
