Our Junior Men take to the mat

The next day of competition at the 2019 Pan-American Championships featured our Junior men in action. Brayden Todd (57 kg) and Julien Choquette (92 kg) of Vanier College looked to build on a good start made by the Canadian women.

In his first match, Brayden would win in a decisive manner by pin in just nineteen seconds of the first round versus Michaell Josue Carache Gonzalez of Nicaragua. His next match would have him face off against a tough American opponent. Brayden would wrestle a tough match but end up losing to Trevor Chase Mastrogiovanni by a score of 11-10. Brayden would advance to the Bronze medal final where he would face Luis Angel Mendoza Jimenez of Bolivia. After securing the takedown, Brayden would lock in a crossed ankle and win by Technical Superiority (10-0) to win the Bronze Medal.

Julien Choquette would begin his round robin tournament with a close loss to Josue Helaman Campos Arizpe of Mexico (4-4). Julien would then face off against Jakob Richard Woodley from the United-States. Though putting in a good effort, Julien would lose via Technical Superiority (10-0). Julien would rebound with a strong effort by beating Auner Gabriel Rossel Suyen of Guatemala by Technical Superiority (10-0) to set up his final match with Yonger Pauli Bastida Pomares of Cuba. Julien would start off strong but lose the match by Technical Superiority (10-0) and finish the tournament in 4th place.
