The Second Beach Wrestling Festival

The second Annual Beach Wrestling Festival took place on Saturday, July 27th at the St-Zotique Beach in St-Zotique Quebec.  Organized by Tony Ronci and Luc Lauzon, the festival expanded this year to include a training camp which was run by Olympic Silver Medallist and 2001 World Champion Gia Sissaouri.  The camp attracted a good variety of local and out of town clubs as the Club de Lutte de Montérégie, the Crazy Dogs, Heritage Regional High School, Massey Vanier, the Mohawk Wrestling Club, Montreal YMHA and the Tritton Topteam Wrestling Club were the local clubs to take part while coming from out of town, National Capitol and the Renfrew Vipers Wrestling Club, also made an appearance.

What a great looking place for an event

After the morning clinic was finished, the camp featured some competitive matches done for the benefit of the spectators in the format of a dual meet.  The action was intense but at the same time well balanced and it was pretty clear that many people who didn't know anything when coming to watch, came away with a greater appreciation for the sport of wrestling.

A special shout out has to go to the organizers of the Mega Beach Wrestling Camp.  Without their dedication and vision, this event would not have been possible and it's clear that a lot of hard work went into the organization.  Here's hoping for many more as this helps to promote the sport of wrestling in Quebec.

Even the really young ones got into the action!
