Round-up from the 2019 Women's World Championships

The Women's World Championships wrapped up for our two Quebec athletes, Jade Dufour (50 kg) and Linda Morais (59 kg) on Thursday September 19th. A last minute addition to the team, Jade would face off against Meng Hsuan Hsieh of Chinese Taipei. In spite of a slow start, Jade would end up in a pinning position towards the end of the match but would run out of time (10-6) and would not advance.

Jade Dufour versus Meng Hsuan Hsieh (TPE)

Linda would start her tournament off in spectacular fashion by winning her match by Technical Superiority (12-2) versus Anhelina Lysak of Ukraine. Her next match would be a much tougher affair as she would come from behind to get the win (6-4) versus Tetiana Omelchenko of Azerbaijan. In the semi-finals, Linda would face another tough opponent in Shoovdor Baatarjav of Mongolia. After a tough match and a failed protest, Linda would emerge with the win (3-1) to set up the Gold Medal match with Liubov Ovcharova of Russia.

In her Gold medal final, Linda would fall behind quickly by a score of 6-0 before securing the pin to win her first World Championship Gold. A congratulations must go out to Jade Dufour for stepping up at the last minute and to Linda for her historic win!
