The Senior, Junior and Cadet World Team Trials

Sunday May 31st 2026

The World Team trials made a return to Montreal as the Centre Pierre Charbonneau played host to event from May 28th to the 30th. The winners of these National Championships would qualify their spot on their respective National Teams to compete at the World Championships.

Quebec Clubs were in full attendance as CLIC, Club de Lutte Lasalle, the Crazy Dogs Wrestling Club, Heritage Regional High School, the Kartal Wrestling Club, the Kanienkehaka Tehontatie:nas Mohawk Wrestling Club/HSB, the Montreal Wrestling Club NTC, les Patriotes de St-Cesaire, the Riverdale Wrestling Club, and the Tritton Performance Wrestling Club would all send athletes to event.

Day 1: The U17 Cadet Team Trials

The event would kick off with UWW Cadet Team Trials on Thursday May 28th. This would be the final event to determine their spot for the Cadet World Team and for a trip to the Cadet World Championships which would be held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The results would be the following:

Day 2: The U20 World Junior Team Trials

Day 2 would see the Junior athletes take to the mat. This tournament would be used as both the National Championships and as the qualifier for the World Junior Team. As expected, the best U20 athletes were present, all with the same goal in mind: to qualify their spot on the National team in order to head to Bratislava, Slovakia. The results were the following:

Day 3: The Senior Team Trials

The final day of competition would see the Seniors take to the mat. The pinnacle of the Canadian Wrestling season, the Senior National Championships would see all the best athletes in the country come to try and qualify their place for the World Championships which would be held in Manama, Bahrain. In addition to this, Laurence Beauregard was named as the Outstanding Women’s Wrestler for 2025 for her Bronze Medal finish at the World Championships.

There was also a ceremony held on the final day of the tournament to honour the members of the 1976 Olympic Wrestling team as well as Martine Dugrenier’s induction into the Wrestling Canada Lutte Hall of Fame! Congratulations to Martine Dugrenier and to all the wrestlers that competed this past weekend. Good luck at the World Championships!
