A busy weekend in October with two tournaments

The last weekend in October was a busy one as two wrestling events involving Quebec wrestlers took place. The Concordia Invitational, held at the Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA took place on Saturday October 25th while the U23 World Championships, held in Novi Sad Serbia, took place from October 22nd to the 27th. in both events, clubs from Quebec were well represented.

The U23 World Championships

Sophia Bechard and Connor Church of the Montreal Wrestling Club NTC would be Quebec’s athletes competing at the tournament. Accompanying them would be Coach Jason Chen of the Montreal Wrestling Club NTC. Sophia would be the first to to step on the mat on Wednesday at the WW 55 kg category. Her match in the 1/8 section of the tournament would be against Alexandra Voiculescu of Romania. Despite coming out strong, Sophia would end up losing by Technical Superiority (13-0) and would not end up advancing to the Repechage.

The stage is set

Connor Church would be next, competing at the FS 79 kg on Saturday. His first match would be against Nikita Dmitrjevs Mayeuski (UWW) in the Qualification Round. Despite taking a 2-0 lead, Connor would lose by Pin (3-2) and would not advance to the Repechage.

A World Class Venue

Congratulations to both Connor and Sophia for competing at the World Championships. To even qualify makes the province proud and best of luck in the upcoming season.

The Concordia Invitational

The Concordia Invitational kicks off the Varsity season for the universities and is the first tournament in Quebec’s wrestling season. The tournament would feature a variety of clubs and universities from Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick. The tournament was held on Saturday at the Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA for a second year in a row. The results were the following:
