The Senior Pan American Championships and the Canada East Wrestling Festival were held on May 7th to the 10th in Coralville Iowa, in the United States of America and Halifax Nova Scotia. For the Pan American Championships, Quebec would have two representatives at the event as Christopher Merlo (FS 57 kg), from CLIC and Laurence Beauregard (WW 59 kg) from the Montreal Wrestling Club NTC would make their way to the event. They would be accompanied by coaches Chokri Khelefi (CLIC) and David Zilberman (Montreal Wrestling Club NTC).
For the Canada East Wrestling Festival, The Kanienkehaka Tehontatie:nas Mohawk Wrestling Club/HSB and the Kartal Wrestling Club were the clubs that sent athletes to the event.
The Pan American Championships
The tournament would begin with Laurence competing on the Saturday. Her first match would be against Abigail Elizabeth Nette from the United States. Laurence would start off the match strong, but would end up losing by Grand Superiority (12-2). Her next match would be against Mayara Ramos Pereira of Brazil. Laurence would score first and never look back, winning the match by Grand Superiority (10-0). In her final match, her opponent, Daniela Soccorro Martinez Vargas from Mexico, would injure out, which meant that Laurence would finish off with a Silver Medal!
Laurence Beauregard
Sunday would see the men take to the mat as Christopher Merlo would start off his tournament with a match against Pedro Jesus Mejias Rodriguez from Venezuela in the Qualifying Round. Christopher would begin the match well but would ultimately end up losing by Grand Superiority (10-0) and would not advance to the Round of 1/8 and would not have a chance at the Repechage.
The Canada East Wrestling Festival
A tournament for the younger athletes, Quebec clubs would look to send their young hopefuls to the event. Designed as a way to give the younger age groups a taste of a high level tournament, while still providing a fun atmosphere, the Canada East Wrestling Festival would feature more weight classes with smaller brackets, providing all athletes with a chance to medal.
