The 2025 edition of the Senior Pan American Championships was held in Monterrey City, Mexico from May 8th to the 11th. The premiere continental championships for North and South America, the competitive field is always a strong one in preparation for the upcoming World Championships.
Quebec’s lone representative woman for the event would be Laurence Beauregard of the Montreal Wrestling Club NTC, competing in the Women’s Wrestling weight category of 59 kg. Laurence is a veteran at this weight, having placed 5th at the 2024 World Championships.
Wrestling for Laurence would begin on Saturday with a match against Abigail Elizabeth Nette of the United States. Laurence would begin the match slowly, but would grow into it and would emerge with a victory via points (6-3)

Laurence’s final match would be against Alma Jane Valencia Escoto of Mexico. Escoto, a former Olympian would present a formidable match for Laurence. However, Laurence would show her class and come out with a dominant win by Grand Superiority (12-1). Congratulations Laurence on your victory at the Pan American Championships!
On Sunday May 11th, Quebec’s other representative, Christopher Merlo of CLIC would take to the mat competing in the 57 kg category. Christopher’s first match would be against Pedro Jesus Mejijas Rodriguez of Venezuela. Christopher would come out strong but would end up losing the match by Grand Superiority (10-0) and would not advance to the Repechage.
