The RBC Training Ground is an initiative deigned to recruit some of Canada’s best young athletes in order to see if they might be interested in shifting focus to a different sport. Several Quebec wrestlers from Loyola High school and Vanier College took part in the Qualifying Event that was held in February at UQAM (Université de Québec à Montreal) while the finals would be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia on November 2nd. The lone qualifier for the event was Cruz Lewis of Vanier College.

And so it begins…

The Athletes assemble

Cruz would be among the select few as only 100 athletes from across Canada would be chosen to compete in the finals. He would engage in a series of tests to see where he would rank amongst Canada’s top up-and-coming athletes from the ages of 15 to 25. After that, the top 30 athletes would be admitted to the program Canada’s future Olympians, with a chance to receive funds for a variety of expenses.

What a venue!

Good luck Cruz and congratulations on being selected amongst some of the best across Canada!
