Day 1 of Wrestling at the 2024 Olympic Games for our Quebec wrestlers began on Monday, August 5th with Linda Morais competing at 68 kg. Her first match would be a tough one as she would face off against Blessing Oborududu of Nigeria. Blessing would be a formidable opponent as she had previously beaten Linda at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham England as well as being a Silver Medalist at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Linda would take a an early 2-0 lead but would give up three consecutive leg attacks to go down 6-2. A late challenge that was lost would result in a 1 point deduction and a last second push-out would have the match finish off by a score of 8-2. Linda would have to wait till the end of the day to see if she would advance to the repechage.

Blessing would make it to the Semi-Final where she would face Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan. Despite taking an early lead, Blessing would lose by score of 3-1. As a result, Linda would not advance to the Repechage. As it becomes harder and harder to qualify for the Olympic Games, there will be no match that can be considered easier at the Olympics as nearly every athlete present has achieved top results at the international and world level. Linda should be congratulated for her accomplishment and should rank this as one of her top career highlights.
