The 2019 Junior World Championships kicked off on Monday August 12th in Tallinn, Estonia.  Quebec was well represented at the event with Brayden Todd (57 kg) and Julien Choquette (92 kg) wrestling for Vanier College and Virginie Gascon  (55 kg) representing Concordia University.  The competition would begin with Brayden Todd facing off against Amir Aliakbar Parasteh of Iran. Brayden would start off with a good defensive wrestling but would ultimately lose the match via Technical Superiority (11-0) and would not move on the repechage.

Julien Choquette would be the next to wrestle on the following day.  His first match would have him face off against Lucas John Davison of the United States.  The match would start off well but would end in a loss for Julien (10-0). Julien would however, move on to face Viky Viky of India in the repechage.

Though Julien would start the match off well, he would eventually lose the match via points (9-0) to the eventual Bronze medalist.  Next up for Quebec would be Virginie Gascon at 55 kg.

Her first match would be a back and forth affair against Elvira Kamaloglu from Turkey in which Virginie would win 15-10.

Her next match would be much tougher as she would lose to the eventual World Cahmpion, Patrycja Gil of Poland (10-0). Gil would win her semi-final match, thereby insuring Virginie a next match in the repechage against Sezen Behchetova Belberova of Bulgaria.

In the repechage, Virginie would wrestle a tough match but fall just short on points (5-0) and would not move on to the Bronze Medal final. A congratulations has to go out to all our Quebec athletes who represented both their clubs, provinces and country very well at this very difficult event.
