The Senior World Championships were held in Belgrade Serbia from September 16th to the 24th. Quebec’s representatives from the Montreal Wrestling Club NTC were Laurence Beauregard (59 kg) and Alex Moore (86 kg) who were accompanied by Coach David Zilberman. This year’s World Championships would be even more important as Olympic Qualification was up for grabs.

Wrestling would begin with Alex Moore, on Saturday against a tough opponent from Azerbaijan, Abubakr Abakarov, ranked 11th at the World Level . Alex would start the match strong but end up losing the match via Grand Superiority (12-2) and would not move on to the repechage.

Laurence Beauregard would be the next to take to the mats. She would face off against Anjali Anjali of India, another top ranked opponent on the International level (9th). Laurence would ultimately succumb via Grand Superiority (12-0) and would not move on to the Repechage.

Though the result were not what was hoped for, our Quebec athletes have shown remarkable resilience in the past. This is a small setback as our athletes move on and look to qualify for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
