On Friday May 2nd, Vanier College held its annual Athletics Banquet for all their athletes in the Sport Études program, both Varsity and non-varsity. The Sport -Études program is designed to allow athletes who are targeted for high performance, the chance to study and train to their full potential by providing them with the support network to do so. This year, the wrestling team recognized a few recipients of some individual awards.
For the Women, Beatrice Galaise was named as the Most Improved Player while Rose Lacoste was named as the Most Valuable Player. On the Men’s side, Bryce Rooney would take the Most Improved Player while Cruz Lewis would secure the Most Valuable Player for the team.
The evening wasn’t just reserved for athletic accomplishments. Academic achievement was also recognized as athletes who achieved an overall average of at least 80% were also singled out as AJ Campione, Alessandro Giordano and Charles Da Vita were the wrestlers to receive that academic honour. It should be noted that only eighty student-athletes were able to achieve this accomplishment.
In the highest tier of academic accomplishment, students with an overall average of 90% or more were also recognized. A rarer accomplishment still as only ten student-athletes were able to achieve this, Rose Lacoste took home that honour. Congratulations must go out to our athletes as they are able to juggle both academic and athletic excellence which sets them up for a bright future.
