Tuesday January 21st 2025

Monday January 27th marks International Holocaust Remembrance Day. While this day is commemorated worldwide, it holds a special meaning for Mr. George Reinitz. George is a pillar of the wrestling community in Quebec as he is a former Canadian National Champion and a regular attendee at many of the local events, as well as some international ones.

What makes George even more remarkable is that he is a survivor of the Holocaust. Despite being sent to Auschwitz at the age of 11, George survived and immigrated to Montreal Canada where he discovered wrestling and went on to have many successes in the sport.

An  event is being held for International Holocaust Remembrance Day with George Reinitz, who will be in conversation with Peter Mansbridge. All the information about the event is below.

On International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz, join us to hear award-winning journalist Peter Mansbridge in conversation with Holocaust survivor George Reinitz. This extraordinary discussion will touch on George’s story of survival after being deported to Auschwitz at the age of 12 and how he rebuilt his life in Canada, becoming a world-class wrestler and successful businessman.

Eighty years after the end of the Holocaust, this increasingly rare opportunity to hear first-hand testimony from a survivor of Auschwitz will take place in-person on January 27th at 7:00 pm at the Montreal Holocaust Museum.

From personal standpoint, I feel privileged to know George and to have regular conversations with him. Even in his nineties, he remains an incredibly sharp conversationalist and is more active than people fifteen years his junior. In George, we see many insights to the past, both in our sport and in history.
