The second to last week in January saw a slew of tournaments both in Quebec and in New Brunswick. The Ed Meagher tournament, which would be hosted by Loyola High School on Saturday January 31st and the Eastern Canadian Championships, the Roar on the River and the UNB Open, which were held at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton New Brunswick on both Saturday and Sunday. Quebec Clubs were present for all these tournaments as the wrestling season would be in full swing.

The Ed Meagher Tournament

The Ed Meagher Tournament is part of a larger sports festival, hosted by Loyola High School on Saturday January 31st. Montreal schools would converge on the competition with this tournament serving as nice competition for our high school athletes. Kanienkehaka Tehontatie:nas Mohawk/Howard S. Billings, Loyola High School, Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School, Royal West Academy and Selwyn House School would all send athletes to the tournament. The tournament is different from other in that the individual results count towards a total team title. The final standing were the following:

The UNB Open

The UNB Open was held in conjunction with the Roar on the River at the University of New Brunswick in Fredricton New Brunswick. UNB has been a staple of the varsity scene and the tournament always sees some tough athletes. Concordia University and the Montreal Wrestling Club NTC were the Quebec clubs present with the following results:

The Roar on the River

The Roar on the River is a high school tournament, also held on the same day as the UNB Open. The tournament would feature athletes from the Nova Scotia, Quebec, New Brunswick and the United States. Massy Vanier High School, the Montreal Wrestling Club NTC and the Patriotes de St-Cesaire all sent athletes to the competition. The results were the following:

The Eastern Canadian Championships

The final tournament of the weekend was the Eastern Canadian Championship took place Sunday February 1st at the University of New Brunswick. This year, participation in the tournament would serve as one the selection criteria for the 2026 Cadet Pan American team. As result, many Quebec athletes would be sent to the tournament in an effort to strengthen their position for selection. Massey Vanier, the Montreal Wrestling Club NTC,  the Riverdale Wrestling Club and the Tritton Performance Wrestling Club all sent athletes to the tournament with the following results:

Montreal Wrestling Club NTC would finish 2nd in the men’s division while Massey Vanier would finish 7th and the Tritton Performance Wrestling Club and Riverdale Wrestling Club would finish 10th.
